Dust storms are part of life in the UAE. Even with windows closed, fine dust finds its way in and settles on every surface. A little preparation keeps your home cleaner and the air more comfortable.
Before a dust storm
- Follow weather alerts from the National Centre of Meteorology.
- Close all windows and balcony doors.
- Bring in outdoor cushions and drying laundry.
- Place draught stoppers or rolled towels at gaps under balcony doors.
During the storm
- Stay indoors where possible, especially children, older people and anyone with asthma or allergies.
- If you must go out, wear a mask and sunglasses.
- If driving, slow down, use your headlights and keep a long distance from the car in front.
Cleaning up afterwards
- Dust top to bottom: shelves and furniture first, floors last.
- Use a damp microfibre cloth. Dry dusting spreads dust around.
